This page exists as a set of helpful guidelines to assist with creating a character to play the games.

The information is merely suggestive, we do not want people to feel like joining the game is a survey or that making a character is a chore.
The sign-up sheet and the 'how to play' pages of the site may seem intimidating at first, but you'd be surprised how little of it you need to know to actually play. So long as you know what Gundam is, you will be fine. (And if you don't, we can explain the basics.)
There is however one section that requires thought and depth, and that is creating the character you play as.

In a Roleplay game, you will be thinking and acting for an entirely original character.
While some people model their characters on themselves so that they can be a part of the story, other people attempt to create a unique or interesting individual.

So, how DO you create someone out of nothing?
Ask yourself..

  1. Is this person Male or Female?
This is as basic as a character can get, but it is a focal starting block.
Don't feel limited by your own real-world gender - no one's asking you to dress up.

  2. How old is this person?
A rookie soldier in most Gundam universes is more than likely young, however your character doesn't have to be some cookie-cutter rookie soldier that applied for the military and passed a series of boring exams.
For example, perhaps a mid-30's man who's home and family were destroyed would take up arms - with or without the military to help him.

  3. What are their defining features?
Scars, moles, freckles, glasses or trademark items (such as a watch or necklace they always have) can help you get a clearer image of how your character looks.
Is their hair long or short? What colour is it? Does it contrast with their eyes? Does it match their skintone? Do they dislike any of their own features?
For some reason, adding a few features makes the next question much easier to think of.

  4. What is their personality like?
Are they some rich snob? The over-cocky 'ace'? Kind-hearted? A reluctant soldier? How popular are they? Do they dislike anyone? Are they too shy to suggest an idea to their superior, or would they disobey an order to do the 'right' thing?
Personality is key to your character. If you don't think one up, you won't like your own creation.

  5. What has happened in their past?
Piloting a Mobile Suit has nothing to do with it, everyone has a past.
You could for example be someone who ran away and joined a mercenary force at the age of 14.
You could be an orphan or refugee after your home was destroyed.
You could have been bullied at school and have deep problems as a result.
What has happened to this person? Who are their family? Are they alive? Are there rivalries with other people?
Creating a personality and looking into their past are essential for bonding with your character.
I find that thinking up a few scenarios in a character's past and trying to think how they acted helps you understand how your character will act in the future.
Remember to be a little hard with yourself. Things happen in life.
We don't want a game full of traumatic upbringings and murdered families, but if you injure your new creation a little, you'll feel sorry for them, or feel happy when there are good times.

Feeling these emotions is important - If you feel for them, you will bond with them. That bond is key to a good character.
If you emote well, others will feel emotions for your character too - and the illusion set by playing your chosen role is complete.
