The Gundam franchise includes a large amount of different Universes, each with it's own history, armies, technology and races. This page exists to give you a better idea of the options available to you if you are not familiar with the universe the current game uses.

The Universal Century is the original universe used in Gundam back in the 1979 release "Mobile Suit Gundam" (Kidou Senshi Gandamu in Japanese)
It has spawned sequels and side stories in novel, comic book, animated series, animated movie and CGI movies that currently span over 70 years of in-universe time from the first Gundam's mobilisation in 0079 through to Victory Gundam in 0153.
The vast majority of people in the Universal Century are Humans.
They do not have any special abilities or advantages unique to their race, however they may experience an 'awakening' and begin to gain NewType powers.
Early on in the Universal Century history, NewTypes are rare beings.
They are the next stage of Human evolution, typically characterised with Spatial Awareness, including the ability to sense people, use Psychic weapons via a Psycommu system or Biocomputer or an innate understanding of machinery.
Depending on the level powers the NewType possesses, they will be able to use various Spatial Awareness ability effects, and may have bonus modifiers in a Mobile Suit or in situations using mechanical systems.
Cyber NewTypes are a later development that became more and more common as time went on.
They have all of the abilities of NewTypes, but did not evolve naturally.
They are artificially enhanced Humans, traditionally created by a particular military force to pilot NewType specialist Mobile Suits.
Typically, Cyber NewTypes are prone to various types of failiure and are not as powerful as the better of their naturally occuring counterparts.

The After War universe was used for the TV series "After War Gundam X", a series that was unpopular in Japan and cancelled before the end of it's completion, leaving a few holes in it's story. It also covers a manga series.
Although being "After War" rather than Universal Century, there were previously several theories about how Gundam X could be a possible continuation from the Universal Century timeline.
Many Humans exist within the After War era.
NewTypes by comparison have virtually vanished, almost similar to 0079 in the Universal Century era.
They have no special abilities.
NewTypes are capable of Empathy, predicting the future and forseeing danger.
One faction in the universe tries to use NewTypes as a weapon due to their greater abilities, creating a system known as the 'Flash' system in order to allow the NewTypes to use exotic weaponry (Very much akin to Biocomputers in Universal Century)
Within NewTypes there exist "Category F" individuals. These NewTypes have the same advantages as a regular NewType, but are unable to use the Flash system and so are often rejected by the military.
Cyber NewTypes in After War are less powerful than a real NewType but more powerful than a Human, capable of using all the abilities that NewTypes do.
They are also prone to flaws including psychological defects or the synapse syndrome.

After Colony encompasses the tv series "New Mobile Report Gundam Wing", it's sequel movie "Endless Waltz" and a small collection of Manga including side stories and sequels, which over-write the claim that "Mobile Suits, including the Gundams were never seen again." from the end of Endless Waltz, unless we believe that there is an ALTERNATE After Colony era where that is true.
In the After Colony era, Humans are all that exist, although there is an operating system known as ZERO which seems to give a skilled pilot some foresight into the events of a battle.
This universe is perhaps the most simple at first glance as it has only one race.

In all honesty, Future Century is listed here for the sake of completion rather than gaming.
It is an incredibly insensitive series in terms of stereotypes and would require a lot of custom Mobile Suit work in order to make a working roleplay.
In the Future Century, everyone is essentially Human.
Characters will have no special abilities apart from the attacks their Mobile Suit is capable of.

The Correct Century involves Turn-A Gundam (Often written as ∀ Gundam), which has been a series and a manga. It is one of the few Gundam series that was never given an English-language dub release.
Due to the show's opening credits and various in-show references including the visual appearance of some Mobile Suits, it was once believed that Correct Century could follow after the Universal Century - including or excluding the events of Gundam X entirely, however there is also a reference to Gundam Wing, and it is very unlikely that all series are in fact interconnected.
If Universal Century and Correct Century are linked, it is likely a gap of around 3,000 years has passed between them.
In the Correct Century, all technology as we know it has been erased in an event known as the Dark History.
NewTypes have entirely disappeared and are unknown.
All that exist now are Humans, which have no special abilities and lack the technology to produce Mobile Suits, or Mobile Dolls as they are referred to in this universe.
Turn-A Gundam's series focussed on the Moonrace, people who have lived for generations on the Moon in order to allow the Earth to recover from it's overpopulation and pollution attempt to return to Earth.
The Moonrace do not have any particular abilities over Humans, however as they construct and know of Mobile Suits, they tend to have the upper hand in most combat situations.

The Cosmic Era includes Seed, Seed Destiny, the Astray manga series, Stargazer, and a multitude of short animations and mangas.
Although not as large as the Universal Century era, it has a bewildering array of technology and storylines that place it higher above the other series in terms of collection.
Naturals are normal Humans that have had no degree of genetic modification whatsoever, hence being "Natural". They have no special abilities.
A Co-Ordinator is a genetically modified Human.
Co-Ordinators are modified for a large number of reasons - to inherit particular appearances from their parents, to be stronger, faster, more resistant to disease, more intelligent, and so on.
Co-Ordinators may choose from having either 2 additional Attribute Points when starting up or always having +1 to their Priority Order.
As the Naturals believe that genetic modification is wrong and un-natural, they do not have many Co-Ordinators in the ranks of their military.
The Earth Alliance's Blue Cosmos (and their funder, the mysterious LOGOS) use drugs to create enhanced Naturals with skills able to deal with Co-Ordinators in battle.
Extended tend to be very similar in terms of skill, but have defects in their personalities, and require some form of control (in the form of time-limited medication, or in the form of a "block word")
NewTypes in the Cosmic Era are incredibly rare, and nowhere near as powerful as their Universal Century counterparts.
NewTypes in the Cosmic Era have Spatial Awareness and the ability to control remote weapons.

As well as being the current real-world universe we live and breathe in, Gundam 00 and all of it's subsidiary offspring also belong in this universe.
Humans are everywhere in Gundam.
Once again, they have no special abilities.
A natural evolution of Humanity caused by exposure to GN Particles.
Innovators are incredibly rare, possessing abilities to detect other people using quantum brainwaves, telepathic and empathic capabilities and the ability to use GN particles to make others feel or sense these things too.
For every natural stage of evolution in Gundam, there's an artificial one.
Innovades are artificially created "bio terminals" similar to Innovators that have been designed to lead mankind into space, where they can evolve into Innovators.
They age slower than Humans, are capable of using quantum brainwaves and can communicate with each other through their use.
Innovades also have various unknown abilities.
The Human Reform League's Super-Soldiers are essentially Innovades.

While not a true Gundam universe within itself, for the sake of completeness, I am including this series here.
I have titled it as such to avoid confusion - Model Suit Gunpla Builders takes place in the real world, making it Anno Domini, but not the same AD in which Gundam 00 takes place.
In this universe, only Humans exist, and battle each other over a virtual simulator which scans in model kits from their collection.
While the system used is ambiguous and the performance levels of units seem more balanced like a videogame than they would be in a real series perspective, the quality and care someone takes over constructing and completing a kit seem to have a direct relation to how effective the unit is within the game. Painted and detailed units are much better than their unpainted, stickered counterparts.
In this universe, we encourage far more in-depth characters with day jobs, interests and a history.
There are however a few differences between this version of the game and the traditional current series.
Your character will need to use the Gunpla Builder character sign-up form in order to join this game.
In this universe, your character will have attributes for modelling skill based on your own, real life work if you so wish. (Or we can decide based on your backstory!) Also, if you purchase a unit in-game that you own in real life, you are free to use images of your model kit to improve your in-game version's quality (custom paint jobs are one of several things that can improve it.) The level of improvement is at the Games Master's discretion, but has no chance of failure, unlike attempting it in-game.
